The market was not big but absolutely worth going. It was full of life and a great place to see the huge fish of Sicily. You can also buy fresh fruit in low price.

Still, located under arches and with the vendors still cleaning up their store, one could get a whiff (no pun intended) of how the place must look during the day. A good reason to return.

The town plays up the historical aspect of this place, but it's basically just a big outdoor fish market surrounded by a vegetable and spice market.

Loved our morning stroll around Catania Fish Market. We bought spices, chocolate, nuts, and other goodies at this colorful and diverse market. Much preferred Catania's market over Ballero in Palermo-- this market wasn't anywhere near as loud or overcrowded as Ballero. There are also many...More

A worth going place even if you don't plan to buy anything. Was curious to check out enormous slices of tuna, heads of swordfish and other sea creatures. You can have small snacks right there. The only thing that concerned me was how they manage...More

Fresh seafood at its best. Fish, swordfish, squid, octopus and more. A lot of yelling but to interest the buyers. Also fresh vegetables, grilled artichokes and onions. A great way to decide what to have for dinner even if you are eating out. Not for...More

This place is indeed for lovers of fish and seafood. The fish are very fresh, probably caught the same morning. Another interesting detail is the atmosphere in the market, the way sellers advertise, shout and gesture. I saw some fish that I had never seen...More

Probably not. And the 1st of May is a Sunday when the market is generally dead. Better the day before when people buy fish and meat for the 1st of May bbq.
