Well worth a visit but avoid Sunday's

Well worth visiting for the stunning interior of the chapel, but do not go on a Sunday. There are only limited time slots between services and the queues are horrendous!

The Cappella Palatina should be rated one of the 7 wonders of the world. You cannot believe it could have been built/finished sound 1143! Mosaics and wooden ceilings look so fresh and undamaged by age or fire or invasion etc, you cannot get your head around it. Normally any building of this age built with a wooden roof would have... I loved the Palazzo, but I went on a Sunday, the queues to the Capella were horrendous, but worth every minute I waited

The Cappella is very special, the royal apartments less obviously spectacular. But we went on a Sunday when there are a lot of free categories for Italian visitors, so we queued for an hour in the sun. Even if you've booked ahead, you only avoid the first queue for the ticket office; you're still in for the long wait to... More

My wife and I visited the Capella Palatina in Palermo during a two-week vacation in Sicily. We had to search to find the entrance. It is part of the Royal Palace that is now the seat of government, so there was lots of security. At the ticket office, we purchased a ticket that gave us entry to both the Capella... More

We went on a day when only the Chapel was open and though it is quite fine, personally I think Monreale more striking. Also we were forced to pay for an Exhibition of Modern Italian Art which really was not worth the extra.

Visit the Cappella Palatina in the Palazzo Normanii for a rare and remarkable example of a Christian church richly decorated in Arab design - as well as Byzantine decoration in in a romanesque structure: ccultural tolerance which shows what we have to learn from previous centuries.

The tour was pretty much limited to a tour of the chapel and a small, not-very-interesting modern art collection. The chapel/Cathedral was nice, but there are so many incredible churches thought Italy and Sicily that this one is not worth making the trip. The apartments that I understood to typically part of the tour were closed. For such a big... More

This was like traveling back through history; all the way back to the Normans. Numerous portraits of royalty back through the ages, even as far as King Rogers actual apartment. The highlight was undoubtedly the Capella Palatina. A masterpiece of architecture, mosaics, arabic woodwork and sculpture. It was a bit crowded but that did not take away from the experience....
