Interesting if you are a fan of archaeology
Lots of ancient artefacts from past residents of Sicilia, including some sizeable remnants of temples. The setting is a former monastery. The architecture, including the pools, fountains and live turtles, adds interest. Security on entry is airport style.

    Beautiful setting for wonderful museum
A gem of a museum in a beautiful setting with amazing artifacts. There is a beautiful garden with natural light in the middle of rooms accessible from the garden with items dating back to the 7 th century BC and beyond. Wonderful informative presentation with some incredible displays. We visited at the beginning of a 9 day tour of Sicily and many of these artifacts were from sites we later visited in Agrigento and Siracusa. Definitely recommend visiting this museum for an hour or two. It is nearby great little side streets for a meal near the Opera house.

    Wow!
This place was amazing. We got there not long after 9am and initially had the place to ourselves. The collections are incredible. Allow a couple of hours to have a good look around. There is an English translation of the text for each exhibit. Hired the audio guide for 5 euro, also includes a map. It is a beautiful facility.

Collection is both large enough and small enough
We spent about two hours at this museum. The collection is both large enough to appreciate the scope of the collection and small enough to enjoy the various exhibits without getting overwhelmed. It also has a lovely museum shop.

    Nice, small regional museum
Certainly not a must, but worth a visit if you love statues from the Roman era, free to visit every first Sunday of the month. I especially liked the part where they painted some statues so they will look as they were in the times of antiquity (usually you see most of them as white because their color were ground by the sands of time). Took less than an hour to visit.

Came here primarily because daughter is doing her masters in ancient history so thought I would get some photos for her. It's not huge but didn't expect it to be. But the was a lot to see and I really enjoyed it. Husband even enjoyed it as he said it was what our daughter is passionate about. Everything was labelled so you knew exactly what you were looking at.

Honestly I didn’t want to visit this museum but I bought a combined ticked including visit to the museum. I was nicely surprised by the archeological treasures exposed at the museum. It is lovely place with nice garden inside. Even if you aren’t an archeological fan would be a really nice experience visiting the place.

Surrounded by busy Palermo this place offers a tranquil, slightly escapist athmosphere. Information boards are in Italian and English, which is nice, but the attitude is rather academic. If you know what you‘re looking at here, great. If you bring teenagers, make sure they‘ve been well fed before and are ready to invest some patience (entry is free for everyone under 28, and teachers with certificate).

One of the best archeological museums I have visited. Information was provided to put the historical items in perspective. The interior of the palazzo/museum if wonderful. Nice coffee bar. Not much to look at on the outside but don't be fooled by that. Venture in and retreat in time.

Among the most important archeological museums in Italy, the Salinas is only partially open at the moment as complex renovation works are carried on on the building and on the collection. However, the part of the collection that can be already visited is outstanding, especially the metopes from the Selinunte temples (exceptional Greek worth of art), but also the statue of Zeus from Solunto and the bronze ram from Syracuse. Also worth mentioning the small cloister with its fountain and a window that used to be in the medieval church San Giacomo la Marina, which doesn't exist anymore.
The entrance is free for now as the exhibition is partial. Absolutely not to be missed (open Tuesday to Saturday, plus Sunday until 13:30).

Despite the fact that this museum continues to be listed and promoted locally it has apparently been closed for 3 years!? It is undergoing a renovation Palermo style. Further, the date to reopen is?! This is common in Palermo...open no....closed si.
