Legend has it that a nymph named Aretusa, who was one of the Nereids of Greece, fled to Sicily after the river-god Alpheus fell in love with her, but was then changed into a fountain (the Fonte Aretusa) by Artemis.

The water is fresh and clear at this fine fountain right on the harbor in Ortygia. It is a nice spot to search for fish. It is also a prominent spot to meet friends.

Very interesting and beautiful site located on the sea waterfront. Great photo opportunities. Near the Piazza Duomo.

I didn't really get what this was until we walked through the winding roads and came out to this vista.

The place is having a great sea view, but there is nothing great to see about the particular place. I don´t know if it is good to see in evening? The fountain has few fishes.

It's a nice fountain in the middle of the old city, but the area is marred by traffic, one of the few places in the old city where you will find any amount of traffic. Still it's pleasant.

This is worth seeing for the historical significance as the fountain is mentioned in ancient Greek texts. There are papyrus growing in the fountain as well as fish and birds. Nice location-- very scenic view of the harbor.

This is a busy area of Ortigia. We enjoyed stopping to watch the huge fish and unusual birds flying around the trees and papyrus
