If you like to see paintings by Caravaggio, his portrayal of the death of Santa Lucia is here. A vary large canvas, most of which is black and showing signs of having been done in a hurry, does not show well in the dim light...More

Free entrance to this church is a bonus. Just a few yards from the Cathedral, this church lacks the fine exterior detail of the Cathedral, but it is a rewarding experience to escape the heat and enjoy one of the great Italian paintings. To appreciate...More

As there is no entry free to this church, it is very easy to see Caravaggio's Burial of St. Lucy here even though it is not as spectacular as I thought. Neverthless, the church is located in the center of Ortigia, so it is very...More

With everything to see that surrounds and really overwhelms it in the piazza, the Chiesa di Santa Lucia alla Badia can easily be overlooked. Me being a Caravaggio fan, we ventured into the church on our second day in Ortigia. You cannot take photos but...More

Visited the church for the Caravaggio painting...not one of his more impressive works. Rest of the church is nice, but nothing to wow.

So disappointing to travel all the way from the UK to this church only to find it closed on a Tuesday, despite notices saying it was closed only on Mondays.

Situated right at the end of the Duomo Piazza, slightly recessed is the church of Santa Lucia alla badia. It is an impressive work.

It's a church and an art gallery, too. I enjoyed the beautiful frescoes inside it. Very unique space at the end of a lovely square.

I would like to know if we can go to Sunday Mass in this Church?

Response from Paula M | Reviewed this property |
I don't think so. The church is basically being used as a museum. You can go to mass right next door at the Cathedral.
What are the opening times for the church please. Thanks

I was just in Syracuse, and this church is open from 11-4, Tuesday - Sunday. I know this because I got there at 4 on Sunday ... just as they were closing the doors!
