For the true romantics. If you loved the book, the movie and Diane Lane in the movie, make the time to visit Bramasole. You cannot enter the villa, it is not a tourist attraction per se, but tourist are still drawn to it - my guess is mostly single women, or women who manage to convince their partners to tag... More

After asking for directions from several people and quite a hike, we finally found our way to Bramasole, the home of the author of Under the Tuscan Sun. I'm so grateful for this opportunity as the movie is my all time favorite as well as Diane Lane, favorite actress. I felt a bit like I was intruding on one's privacy... More

Cortona has two Villa Bramisoles: France's Mayes pink-hued hill home made famous by her popular books, and the site utilized for the movie version of "Under the Tuscan Sun." To view the real one from Piazzale Garbaldi we walked past the WWI monument, then past the 15th Century San Domenico Church into Parterre Gardens whose leaves had turned brilliant colors... More

When I tried to find Bramasole several years ago, no one would give away its location. My friend and I took several wrong turns up hills and down until some construction workers clued us in to exactly where it was located. This past October when I took my friend to view the house I was surprised to see that there... More

Unlike the movie which gives you the feeling that Bramasole is located right near the heart of it all, we enjoyed a lovely 1/2 hour stroll to its locale on the hillside. The view is stunning along the way and the restored villa is beautiful. I swear my husband kept a look out for Diane Lane for the rest of... More

Read the book, see the movie, and drive past the house. All three are good diversions of which the book is the best. Famous house from "Under the Tuscan Sun" (where Francis Mayes still resides at times) is tucked away above the eastern side of Cortona. Yes, its a beautifully landscaped residence but has minimal value unless you're into taking... More

I took the trip up the hill to Bramasole. It was about 30 minutes walk from Cortona MAEC. The garden is beautiful. The walk through the gardens of Cortona was also beautiful - the leaves just turning for Autumn.

Visited Cortona recently for birthday celebration and of course could not resist trying to find Frances Mayes house Bramasole after reading Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany her wonderful description of her journey and life in Tuscany. We found it quite a challenge to find the house but eventually after driving up one or two off the beaten track,... More

We tried a few years ago to find Bramasole after my husband read the book. It still took some time to find but it was worth it. We were able to help a young couple from the USA who were going to visit the next day.

Beautifully renovated home. From the street you can see details of this famous renovation. She has done a marvelous job and you can almost imagine living in Bramasole yourself. We saw her decorator bringing in additional patio chairs, the rest of the set visible from her veranda. An easy detour and worth it if you've read the book.
