Get there early or book tickets in high season. We timed it right and went up the tower about 10.30. When we came down the queue was huge.

Because of the wonderful and unique siding of the duomo, baptistery and bell tower, this piazza is indeed lovely and worthy of your time and photos. Worthwhile to view at night, as well.

Gorgeous to walk around and see the Duomo in all its glory. Definitely venture inside the Duomo (it's free) and check out Edoardo il Gelato Biologico for the best gelato you'll ever eat.

This area gets very busy at peak times, best to visit early morning or in the evening. A lot of bars and restaurants around the square, some not too expensive for the location. Go just outside the square and prices drop quite a lot!

The Duomo and the baptistry are amazing. However the piazza is right in the center of all Florence and therefore all the craziness happens there. Beggars, tourist hordes, honking bicycles, horses carriages, gypsies, selfie-sticks salesmen, armed soldiers (for safety) ambulances, noise, gelato, pizza, pasta and chaos. Prepare yourself and take a deep breath!

Piazza del Duomo was a beautiful piece of architecture dating back to the 13th century The exterior is covered in a decorative mix of pink, white and green marble. well worth the visit.

My Wife and I wanted to see the Duomo however were informed that owing to a storm the night before there was no electricity in the main cathedral and were not able to see the whole facility, yet they proceeded to charge us fully for just seeing the smaller of the structures rather than just issuing a voucher or, given... If you have never been to the Tuscany area of Italy then you have been missing out on some loverly scenery and some fantastic art and architecture. The people are friendly, and the food great. For me, this is the best ambiance and atmosphere someone can live. Rome is the most beautiful city in Italy but this is something special, just to sit, relax and watch the picturesque duomo with the Giotto tower and do nothing else. I come here at least 5 times a year (I live far from here) and every time this... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
