This weekly market in the Cascine Park on the banks of the Arno River is like shopping in a huge open-air department store.

It's a very long market, mainly for the locals but selling the usual stuff you get in any Italian market. The Cascine is known as perhaps a more 'interesting' place in the evening when the less savoury side of Florence is exposed!

The Mercato delle Cascine is a market that is worth visiting. It has a lot of stalls with all sorts of goods for sale. Frequented by the locals, this is a great place to spend a few hours

So disappointed, made the hour plus trip in just for this market, and found a festival site (united festival?) on the banks of the Arno over the past couple weeks...no sign of the market being moved either. Not sure how you can confirm in advance....More

Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the
majority of the people arriving in Florence, which
might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists
come across the constant hustle and bustle of the
station before exiting, taking a few steps and
stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It
is impossible not to admire the the square, housing
one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The
