Out of the way spot to take a few minutes, enjoy some beauty without the crowds. Square is quiet. Definitely a tucked away gem

Started outside the original city walls by the Servites, an order of friars, in around 1250, this early church building eventually grew into the amazing, complex and artistically significant church we see today. This church and it's friars were the main reason that Florentines developed...More

The entry loggia is covered with outstanding Renaissance frescoes, some of which are being restored fortunately...these are the ones by Andrea del Sarto. But all of them are wonderful. What puzzles me about some of the comments by disappointed tourists is this: have they not...More

We also found this one by accident whilst wandering aimlessly from the bigger tourist ticket items by the river to our hotel and were lucky that we chose to take a look. Externally it’s not really inviting with the entrance hidden under the north portico...More

Please make this a "must see" on your trip to Florence. So peaceful and spiritual here. Not at all like most of the other cathedrals. Amazing to see inside. Brought my wife to tears. No charge to enter. Just please be respectful.

We were walking around this piazza and didn't realise that there was a church here as the front looks like other buildings in the square. We went in and it was a beautiful church with ornate decorations in gilt edging and wonderful paintings on the...More

We stumbled upon this beautiful church near the Accademia Gallery and were so impressed by the gold and carved ceiling. The many side chapels were equally beautiful as was the organ pipes. There was no entrance fee. Being off-season, there were not many tourists. Beware...More

San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a
stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence,
surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking
students provides the tranquil surroundings for the
elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read
the daily newspaper. Home to several universities,
including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one
of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A
