Neighbourhood: Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
How to get there
  • Cascine Olmi • 4 min walk
  • Porta al Prato-Leopolda Parco della musica • 5 min walk

Very good La traviata
Jun 2019 • Friends
We came to see La Traviata. The set was a modern design, and the singers were mostly very strong. The modern architecture of the opera house is unique in my opinion, although the sound does not seem to suffer.
Surtitles are in English and Italian, so it is visitor friendly!

Something special d
To do in evng to remember your trip -opera with large orchestra, Pucini won't disappoint. A huge support cast marks the memorable first half followed by the more tearful second act. Enjoy among the locals and tourists.

Spectacular concert under the stars at Cortile di Palazzo Pitti
Jun 2017 • Family
We were in Florence on Vacation and were not expecting to go to a concert. The night that we were walking by Palazzo Pitti we noticed there was going to be a concert at 9pm. I asked what was all about with my poor Italian mixed with some Spanish and some English and for only 10 euros per person we had the most spectacular night in Florence. With the Florence Philharmonic : Lowell Liebermann Concerto per ottavino e orchestra, op. 50 Intervallo and Ludwig van Beethoven Sinfonia n. 5 in do minore, op. 67 directed by Yaron Gottfried. It was amazing. My 7 and 11 year old enjoyed it very much. Check the calendar online if you are in Florence this summer and look for the Maggio musicale fiorentino.

If you are visiting Florence, you must see at least one Italian Opera, played by One of the best Italian Orchestra.

Wonderful experience in an olde Catholic Church. The love duets sung by two extremely professional singers and a pianist were an experience not to be missed

Faust - January 2017
Jan 2017 • Solo
It was my first visit at this theatre and I was impressed. It is modern, quite big and the sonority it was very good! Very nice designed - simple and effective and the seats are very comfortable. I had also the opportunity to see a little bit from the backstage and everything it was well arranged.
I saw Faust, under David McVicar directorate and the spectacle was a five star one! Excellent stage set up, good lights and very nice costumes. Not so impressed by the conductor. But definitely it is a show that everybody must see it!

Mika performance with Sinfonia
Dec 2016 • Family
Amazing venue. The seats and acoustic are fabulous. The choir and symphony is breathtaking. It was a fantastic end to 2016. The fireworks at New Year 2017 was spectacular, about 11mins long!!

Tip: after performance on 30th,a staff is at the exit booking taxis and I just had to take my number until taxi arrived.

Amazing opera at the Pitti Palace
Jul 2016 • Solo
La Traviata, with Fellini-esque costumes and scenery, was magical under the stars of the Pitti Palace courtyard. With tickets from 20 to 90 euros for a full performance, this was more than value for money. The 90 euro tickets also purchased a prosecco and mini sandwiches before the performance. Splurge, and go for the 60 or 90 euro seats - if you like opera, drama or live performances, this will be an event worth remembering!
