Close to Lucca’s city walls this little church is well worth a visit if ever it is open as you pass by. It has a lot of character, interesting architecture and a pleasing scale. There was a nun praying in the church when we visited, which was nice to witness.

This is really a beautiful little church which is probably much overlooked by visitors to Lucca because it's just outside the main thoroughfare and it's often closed. We were lucky enough to stay on the same street so were able to visit inside on a few occasions when it was opened. The architecture itself is very interesting but the murals are also very beautiful and one wall is one of the original Roman walls of Lucca. If you get the chance to visit when it's open do so, it's not grand but its more beautiful and peaceful than many of the larger churches in Lucca.

This small church is among the handful of places where you can connect dramatically with the Roman heritage of Lucca. A large chunk of the ancient wall built by the Romans that once surrounded the city was appropriated by the builders of this church and used for the western wall. You can only see it from inside the church, which is rarely open. If you happen to pass by at a time when the church is open, don't miss it -- it just takes a few minutes.

May be my evvaluation should be more conservative, but it is indeed a jewel that few foreigners visit, right in a narrow street behind the Duomo; it is beautiful from the outside and inside is a real delicate jewel
