Fascinating. Setting ip for the horse racing on 2 July. Sand around the piazza and Siena flags everywhere. Great history, restaurants and shops. Will come again and explore longer

A favorite place in Siena. Beautiful architecture and a great place to sit and people watch. Grab a bite to eat at on the cafes. Not the best of places to eat, but with the atmosphere, you'll enjoy a stop. Surrounded by great architecture for...More

This is one of my favorite main city piazzas of them all. It's surrounded by great architecture and many restaurants, but the best part is the sloped paving, which just naturally invites people to sit on the piazza floor! What a difference this makes!

One can't miss this wonderful Piazza once in Siena, as this is the city center in every sense of the world. From early morning to late night, it offers great views, food and people watching - and I am not even talking about Il Palio

This piazza located in the same spot where Roman Coliseum used to stand for many centuries. Great old buildings all around. Don't eat in many piazza cafes, very touristy and quality of the food is low.

You absolutely have to go here at night for a drink and people watching. The prices can be a bit high for lower quality but the atmosphere makes up for it! Wish there weren't people trying to sell you roses or light up gadgets but...More

So this is probably THE iconic site in Siena and very beautiful it is too - stunning architecture, vast space, very atmospheric. Totally spoilt, however, by "pushers" from the cafes around the piazza constantly thrusting menus in your face and trying to drag you inside....More

We visited a week before the annual horse race so quite a bit of construction is going on with barriers and stands being put up. This took the gloss off a little but it's still a must see when in Siena. The biggest surprise is...More

With its shell shape, this square radiates outwards from the magnificent Torre del Mangia; great place to relax during the day and grab a meal at night.

I have seem much more beautiful piazzas elsewhere. This one was so large yet it was filled with tourists. Very kitchy. I was not a fan of this place and essentially tried to avoid it as much as possible during my two day stay in...More

The nearest airport to Sienna is Florence Italy. The drive from Florence to Sienna is about one hour and a half. If you are driving straight from the airport to Sienna, you do not even have to go into the city of Florence... More

Is parking in the city difficult? Or is there a better place to park and take a train in?

Yes, parking within the ancient city walls can be quite difficult, though you can park outside the walls and walk in. As with most ancient sites, the central city is pretty small and walkable, so you don't need a car. If... More
