The magnificent complex of the Cathedral of Siena, its Duomo, houses a series of some of the most important monuments of the European artistic panorama. With its more than one million visitors every year, the Cathedral without a doubt represents the fulcrum of the entire complex, while other significant elements include the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Museo dell'Opera, all part of the impressive mass formed by the "Duomo Vecchio" (Old Cathedral), and the "Duomo Nuovo" (New Cathedral). Visitors will travel along a memorable itinerary to the discovery of self and the truth of faith through culture and art, the result of more than a millennium of Western history.

This cathedral was started in XIII century. Unique XV century pavings. Beautiful frescoes. Famous pulpit.

The Siena Cathedral is most beautiful church I have ever visited! Both, inside and outside it contains such beautiful sculptures! Beautiful stone work around the perimeter of the church and several alters with sculptures and beautiful paintings throughout the church. Beautiful!

Well worth going in, prettier and more to it than Florences. Make sure you go in the little side room at no extra cost.

Get ready for a walk to the top, on a hot day, up a steep hill to see a local religious treasure. It's different from other cathedrals in Italy and the locals have been proud of it for centuries. Striking architecture, fabulous reliefs, religious reverence...More

We've been travelling in Italy for seven weeks and seen a lot of churches - and I mean a lot! However, this is one of the best. Not the biggest, not the most ornate but just really balanced and beautiful. It's a must see in...More

We were lucky to see the engravings in the Duomo on the floor with scenes of salvation inlaid in different colored marble with the outline of figures filled with black. All over Siena you will see the Lupa Capitolina- the mythical she wolf nursing the...More

A change to the normal brown stone dathedrals! Siena Cathedral is a masterpiece of coloured marble and is spectacular both inside and out. Thr highlight is undoubtedly the absolutely magnificent frescoes in the library - amazingly one becomes overexposed to frescoes during a visit to...More

This is far better than the cathedral in Florence - which looks like a garage inside, it's so bare! Well worth a visit

We did the tour of the roof and upper reaches of the Cathedral and then the Cathedral itself. The tour and visits are governed by the one ticket which can be purchased in Piazza del Duomo. You can pick as many or as little of...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
My question is about pre-booking a visit to Siena Cathedral. On the Cathedral's w/site it is written in bold letters that The Opa Si Pass "is valid for three days from the date of purchase". The linked w/site through which the advanced purchase can be made only says that the pass is valid for 3 days. Could anyone, who recently visited this Cathedral complex, be able to provide definite information about the booking process? What booking w/site did you use?

During our visit in June2017, we made our purchase at the ticket office, kitty corner from the Duomo. No lines, very quick and easy.
Are coverings for bare shoulders provided?

Yes, we saw ladies with bare shoulders wearing a white cape type cover. They were being dropped off at the exit.
