The crypt is located on the backside of the Duomo. Buy a ticket for the Duomo, the crypt and the museum at the ticket office. All are worth spending time in. The crypt will give you a great idea of what it takes to build a massive building like this. Well narrated self guided tour. Engineers will love it.

This was fine, and if you are in Siena, doing the Cathedral, and have a combo ticket, then make a short visit. But on its own it is not worth a special trip. Best of it is to see the depth of the foundations.

After reading about Siena in Rick Steves and other travel blogs, we were excited for a day trip to Siena from Florence. It's very easy to take the bus (and recommend the bus because it drops you off in the center of town v. far away like the train will) and within an hour you are in Siena. The Duomo... More

The old frescos of the cript very well worth a visit. Sadly there's almost no info available unless you pay an extra for it.

If you didn't know it was there, you might miss it entirely. It was on our three tickets pass for the cathedral / duomo / museum so we went to find it. The entrance is behind the cathedral, down a set of stairs with a narrow entrance. Easy to miss. It's not a crypt, there aren't decaying bodies (not used... More

This is a gem of a place to see. Well preserved frescos that date back well over 1000 years. If you visit the Doumo, pay for the all inclusive ticket that get you access to this.

It is in a different league than the other parts of the complex. The frescoes look fresh due to re-discovery of the Cripta and it is definitely the advantage. Still, it targets a rather narrow audience and a regular tourist won't miss much if he/she simply runs out of time planned for exploring the cathedral complex.

What an incredible place this is - to discover this so long after it was built and the condition of the frescos is incredible. - well worth a visit as part of the €15 pass - a real treasure.
