Great place but needs improvements
Aug 2020 • Couples
The garden has really great potential, it has many various plants and is also quite big. It's such a pity it has such an uninviting entering... and is also hidden! Also, I think that the plants should be treated better. I saw many cobwebs and dry leaves, and they also seemed very dry themselves... maybe you should water them more. I hope to come back in the future and find some improvements!

Really not worth 7 euros

A bit sad really with poor display of plants and a bizarre dinosaur display - which was also sad!
Don’t bother I’m afraid

5 Euros is a bit steep
Apr 2019 • Family
If the gardens were a little better looked after I'd be happy to pay the 5euro entry fee. It's a nice enough gardens but needs better care.

Don’t waste your time or money

We walked past the entrance to the gardens today and thought it would be good to have a look round.

It was €5 to get in and everything was saw was poorly looked after. Many plants were dead and the water garden area was full of algae.

Really very poor and disappointing.

A tranquil spot.

Walkways could be challenging for the less agile. Half price admission for seniors, not at all crowded.Lovely views over the countryside. Mosquito problem if you sit and enjoy the view.

Green Oasis
Sep 2018 • Couples
There is not a lot of green in Siena. This is an ideal place for a picnic. There are loos and picnic tables. Very interesting botanical specimens. Succulent and palm house disappointingly empty. Avoid lily ponds because of mosquitoes. €5 entry. Belongs to the University. Good place to take kids to run free.

An oasis in the midst of an oasis
Sep 2018 • Solo
A pleasant walk to this oasis of serenity will provide a tranquil stroll among plants of different regions of the world, all carefully labeled according to taxonomy.

This botanical garden is not overly “manicured,” so you’ll enjoy a very natural setting as you move along moss-covered trails descending and ascending through various levels.

Need an escape from the crowds of the piazzas and basilicas? Find your way to Siena’s Orto Botanico. Entry 5 euros. Map and English-language brochure provided. Very helpful gentleman at ticket booth.

Avoid! Nothing to see except concrete paths and mosquitos
Sep 2018 • Couples
Unfortunately, this botanical garden is a disgrace. 5 Euro entry, which seemed reasonable so we gave it a go. However, the beds are either empty or contain very poorly looked after bushes and shrubs. And the temperate houses are nigh on empty.

When we visited in September the mosquitos were in full force and so we left with bites. Lots of them. This garden is in need of some major work. You’d be better off in the beautiful squares and streets that Siena has to offer.

If you don’t take our word for it read the comments in the visitor book before entering - we certainly wish we had. The comments all say the same thing!

Small but nice garden, could use some TLC
Apr 2018 • Couples
Part of the University, we enjoyed a stroll through the gardens. The greenhouses were the highlight - great citrus in particular.
We were there in early April, so we did not expect full spring bloom, but some of the beds could use some more plantings and some weeding.
The entry fee is not unreasonable - it's not free to maintain the gardens.
I did like the natural feel - not everything has to be manicured. It is nice to get some outside time and a change from paintings, frescoes, and statues. Bonus - met a nice cat here too!

A bit empty
Sep 2017 • Couples
It may have been affected by the very high temperatures Europe has had this summer, but a lot of the garden was very empty (e.g. the greenhouses). We had a pleasant walk through.
