We decided to walk up to Rocca Maggiore in late afternoon, once the midday sun had passed. It was still a hard walk up hill to reach Rocca. Once there it's mainly a ruined old fortress perched on top of the hill. There was an...More

It's a steep walk up and the view from outside the Rocca Maggiore is lovely but don't pay the €5.50 each to enter as all you see is old film set memorabilia and a few archery slots. All of the towers that would offer views...More

So you finally made it to the top of the hill above the Assisi. You made it to the fortress that haunted you for a long time, that tower that can be visible from the whole city that hypnotized you inviting you to see the...More

I went to Assisi seeking a peaceful, quiet town. In general it is,but most of the famous churches were packed, so I surprisingly found my visit to Rocca Maggiore more peaceful than other places. When you're visiting the site, you come to a doorway at...More

Lovely walk up and down through Assisi's charming cobbled streets, but I wouldn't want to do it on a hot summer's day! SImply breathtaking views over the countryside and a very interesting fortress. Inexpensive and interesting.

Visiting the Rocca is well worth the climb, for the views alone. This former castle sits atop the highest point in Assisi and the views from the battlements are fantastic. There is a cost to enter the castle, which allows you to climb up a...More

The Rocca Maggiore fortress, being on top of Assisi, offers a great view of Assisi and the valley all the way to Perugia and lake Trasimeno. The walk up the hill is great (despite the garbage some tourists "forget" on the way). Not sure the...More

The fort is interesting but not worth 5.5 Euro. The walk to the fort is picturesque, continue past the entrance and follow the road to the left of the fort to see a small grassy area with seats and amazing views! This is a great...More
