A lovely cathedral set in a beautiful square in Assisi. Inside is the batismal font where St Francis was baptised

This is built on top of ancient Roman ruins and has a glass floor so that you can see them! How cool and unique is that? We loved this church.

As we didn't visit other churches in town I cannot compare the Duomo with others, but although the interior was much smaller than I expected, it is certainly very ornate and the painted ceiling above the nave is rather spectacular.

At the other end of Assisi (Basilica St Francis at the other end) a nice walk to enjoy the plaza and of course the interior of this Duomo - history abounds and the beauty is magnificent !!!!!!!!!!!

Not nearly as interesting as the Basilica but well worth a visit as are all these ancient churches. Originally meant to be the biggest church in the world it never made it due to the Black Death.

This unimposing church carries many signs of the Etruscan predecessors and inside you can view the ancient foundations upon which this church was built through the glass floors. Despite extensive reconstruction underway indoors it was still a marvelous visit.
