This basilica located 4 kms away from Assisi is very rich in history. One particular chapel that people visit inside this church is the small church of the Porziuncula. It is both associated with St. Benedict and St. Francis. As to the basilica, it gets...More

On a road trip in Italy starting from Rome through Assisi and through Tuscany we accidentally passed by the Basilica and stopped to visit. An impressive place to pray, the old church is still preserved in the middle of the new building - which is...More

This is an enormous and impressive Papal Basilica located at the bottom of Assisi. The exterior is impressive with the Golden Madonna Statue and the interior is even more beautiful with a little path to follow to see some hidden treasures... It is definitely worth...More

There is a famous chapel. Our Lady 's painting is very dignified. A lot of people prayed at the chapel for a long time. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from Assisi station.

We visited this church the second day in Assisi. This Basilica honors Our Blessed Mother and here are relics of St. Francis The art was amazing and it was very spiritual for me.

We were very surprised at how big this church is. St. Francis' chapel inside of this church is amazing. The number of chapels in use today were huge as well. The garden areas were pretty as well.

We went after visiting the Basilica and highly recommend spending more time here. This is where Assisi actually spent his time. There was a special mass which my children enjoyed. We then lined up to see the small church. Worried that we wouldn't get to...More

Not something you see every day - that’s for sure. How wonderful to reflect on the sacrificial and all too short of life of St. Frances as you may worship in the same “chapel” as he did 800 years ago. Italy has done such a...More

Given the fact that it's even walkable from the town of Assisi, I guess walking down from the train station should absolutely be doable, as it's like a 1/3rd of the distance and it's flat. If you want to walk from st. Maria... More
