Must go !

Wonderful and peaceful part of Assisi. Away from the tourists. Walk both paths. Great experience. Have lunch at the Molino.

Entry is via a gate beyond the Piazza of San Francesco Basilica. At the beginning of the trail is a series of quirky, fascinating sculptures. The trail is shady and not too strenuous. If you go during the hotter months it would be wise to take water with you. However there is water available at the Santa Croce fountain near... More

I guess this could have been a pleasant peaceful walk in different circumstances, but I felt we should have been warned that the paths are gravel, steep in places and require sturdy footwear. On a warm humid evening, I gave up and returned, exhausted to base. This place could be dangerous if you're not careful.

Dear happytraveller575, we are very sorry that you didn’t feel sure and comfortable following our paths. Probably they were particularly unpleasant and slippery because of bad weather...we normally suggest comfortable shoes telling visitors that the path goes up and down the hills through the woods. Our explanation that day was maybe not exhaustive enough. Looking forward to seeing you again,... More

Starting in the St Frances basilica, this walk (operated by FAI the Italian National Trust) takes you down a track with a series of fairly steep sections down to the river valley and the St. Croce church. You go for the cooling and varied walk, not to visit the church. There is a small restaurant in the old mill where... More

Lovely peaceful walk through the forest! My wife loved it. Just so peaceful and serine. Can't understand why more people didn't like it????

This was the highlight of my day in Assisi. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into and we weren't fully prepared to hike 5km, but it was 100% worth the effort. The peace of the hike, taking us through the old pathway to the monastery... it was wonderful. To spend the afternoon in nature - as St. Francis... More

If you want to take a walk, this is a nice trail, but the Bosco di San Francesco is simply not worth the effort if that is the objective. An undistinguished building with a undistinguished church.

If you want a break from the city or the sun or the crowds of visitors, take a stroll through the forest of San Francesco. The entrance is through a door in the wall of the garden directly above the Basilica San Francesco. A voluntary donation is requested for hiking the trail down the hill to other attractions.

Friends told us about this walk and we were delighted they did! We visited in july, so not only this was a journey that offered spiritual reflection, but also a welcome respite from the heat. The little chapel at the bottom of the walk is a gem. The staff welcoming and friendly and the toilets have one of the most... More

The walk is really lovely through shady reclaimed and well managed woodland. The planting down by the stream is beautiful. It's a peaceful change from the streets and away from the roads. A new perspective looking up at the Basilica too. There is a suggested donation to visit which supports the work of the environmental project.
