A small church in Assisi. It is considered a new church even though it was built close to 300 years ago. Here you will find the home of St. Francis and the prison where his mother (or father?) held him captive. Some parts of the...More

this is one of the many churches to see in the area------ it doesn't quite measure up to the Cathedral on top of the city or santa Maria on the other side of the train station. It is definitely a church to see and walk around.

Small church, worth a walk through mostly because of the tie to St. Francis. There is a little room to exemplify the small room St Francis father locked him up in for a while.

Still under renovation but the room where St. Frances' father held him captive remains on display. Lovely side chapels and late Renaissance architecture

It was very difficult to get a feel for the church since it was largely covered by plastic during an ongoing renovation. It was interesting to see the ties with St. Francis' family.

It is interesting seeing how much history of his life remains available. It was interesting to see how much opposition he faced from his family. But in April 2016, much of interior of church is behind scaffolds due to restoration work.

Few tourists visit this church and thus make it more solemn for Catholics like me. It was amazing to visit the house of St. Francis' father, his room and the cell where he was detained. Why he was detained by his father remains a mystery...More

Not sure if Francis ever lived below but the "New Church" is in a latter and different architectural style. It's also off the beaten trail.

The Chiesa Nuova, build in late renaissance style, looks a bit odd compared to the other churches like the duomo and the basilica. This church is said to be built on the original home of St. Francis. Inside you will find some frescoes about the...More
