This was our first time to visit the town of Assisi, and we were very pleasantly impressed with it. Seeing the town rise up from the Umbrian landscape is quite a sight and the Basilica Papale San Francisco D'Assisi immediately grabs your attention. It is free to visit, but you have to go through a security check which can take... More

Wow is an understatement. Thirty plus years ago when I was a child in catholic school, I always wondered what it would be like to be here. The weather when we arrived was slightly odd. It was bright sunny when we arrived at the front of the church gazing at its marvel. Then, we all felt the heavens opened up... More

Assisi has a number of major churches, all of which are absolutely beautiful. This Basilica, the church dedicated to St. Francis, has multiple altars as well as many artifacts from the life of St. Francis. St. Francis's tomb lies within this church, buried for hundreds of years. Along with the church of St. Clare and the Basilica of St. Mary of... More

We went here on the Feast of St Francis October 4. the life of St Francis you can see in the landscape and feel the 12th century. It may have been difficult in Assisi at that time but it is blooming with beauty today

I travel in the winter to avoid the crowds. I went after 2:30 on a Sunday and practically had the entire basilica to myself. What an experience.

Assisi is a good place to visit where you can touch most of the life of St Francis, there is as well the old town where you can 'smell' the old days of this place.

St. Francis is one of the great saints in the Christian tradition. The popularity of the name itself is a testament to his impact. He is also the pioneer in the mystic tradition of the church. The view from the hill into the plains is amazing and humbling. We can see where St. Francis got his inspiration from. The church... More

Even if you are not a religious person, this is a great place for studying beautiful architecture and taking in the picturesque vistas of the Umbrian Valley below! If you are a Catholic then the experience is that much better.
