Although the Cathedral is still bring renovated and still deemed unsafe to allow visitors, you can still get very good views of the interior from two open doors. Situated next to the Ducal Palace, and just along from Ranghiasci Park, this quiet area of Gubbio...More

The church sits on the top of the hill with great views of Gubbio. The church itself is architecturally interesting and there are some very fine paintings inside. Note that you can take an elevator up to visit it, which is free.

In spite of the enthusiastic reviews by others we didn't find much to be excited about in the cathedral apart from the lovely stained glass windows. They were wonderfully restored by artists from the Studio of Moretti Caselli in Perugia (see separate review).

Having visited Assisi and a number of other churches in the area, I was knocked out by the Cathedrale at the very top of the old town. Not over ornate (S Francesco in Assisi), perfetto.

Everything about the architecture leads you to the altar area where a gorgeous window sheds light on what's going on. Church has art from local artists. Use the town elevator and you will be less cranky when you are visiting.

This place is often described in guide books as being less decorative than other duomos in Umbria. This is a gross mis-observation and misrepresentation of a spectacular building. Well worth a visit and for architects it is a must see edifice

A quick stop over in the cathedral is a must when walking round the town. The fantastic stain glass window at the end is a wonder.
