The basilica is absoltutely worth visiting. It's a fun ride up the funicular, very enjoyable for children and breaks up "heavy" sightseeing. There is a free museum in the basilica complex with some interesting exhibits to do with the famous "cere" festival and race, which is fascinating but difficult to understand! The view over the city of Gubbio and the... More

Take the funivia up the mountain and visit. Gorgeous stained glass! See the three tall Ceri that are carried through the town every year on May 15th during the Ceri Festival. The funivia (birdcage) is a really fun way to get up the mountain as see this beautiful church.

It's about 40 minutes to hike up. Or you can take the funicular, which was not working on the day i went. The view is beautiful and the walk was really good exercise. The locals do it for the exercise. It's a very peaceful church.

It's a longish and steep 4k walk to the Basilica but the views are good and the Basilica is interesting. If you don't fancy the walk there's always the funicular but frankly I'd prefer to walk after having seen it - sort of 2 person cages.

The Basilica of Saint Ubaldo is not only the home of the candles (ceri) during the year, but also the destination of the race which takes place every year on 15 May. The real race is appr. 4 km between the slopes and narrow descents of Gubbio to the basilica of Saint Ubaldo on top of Mount Ingino. Do not... More

A beautiful setting for this Basilica on top of the hill within a courtyard. The interior has a calm, warm feeling and a great sense of peace.

My wife and I wandered through the lovely city of Gubbio and as we climbed through the city, we happened upon Porta Saint Ubaldo and decided to make the walk up the mountain to reach the Basilica on top of the hill. It was a sunny day, and cool, perfect for a good exercise. I would estimate the walk took... More

Wonderful walk up the mountain - even in hot conditions as the path is shaded and small chapels on the way offer fresh water straight from the mountain. Take the gondola back down. It's very cheap and great fun while soaking up breathtaking views.

The easy way to see the mummified body of saint ubaldo is to take the cable car. But the best way is to park at the Roman amphitheatre and meander up and up through the medieval city, through the city wal at Porto ubaldo. From there there's a wide, winding path right up to the Basilica steps. After refreshment from... More

Had a tranquil, if steep, walk to the basilica. There were a few fountains along the way to refill water bottles, which was much appreciated. Inside the basilica courtyard was quiet and the church itself was lovely. We, of course, admired St. Ubaldo's remains and also the massive "ceri" from the yearly festival. The stained glass windows depicting the life... More
