In this part of the town just nice to walk, climbing and going down the narrow streets. Consider the facades, roofs, balconies and doors of houses, not similar to one another. Flowerpots with flowers, unusual figures in front of the houses, unexpectedly arising from the...More

The old town is a rats best of streets going up or down. You need to be able to climb in order to walk it. Some areas are jammed with people while 1 block over is empty.

The narrow old streets of the historic town of Basel have some wonderful 15Century buildings beautifully maintained restored and lived in. Take time out to stroll around.

Being such an old city, Basel has some wonderful architecture. Walking up the narrow streets, you find some hidden gems that have stood since the 15th century. Everywhere you go I would encourage looking up as their are some excellent gargoyles. Beautiful place to visit!

I actually visited the Old town on my own with the tourist brochure. There are self-guided tours of oldtown walks on the official city website, as well as free walks by local guides for tips only.
