The Bernisches Historisches Museum is one of the most important Museums of cultural history in Switzerland. The collections of archaeology, history and ethnography include approximately 500,000 objects dating from the Stone Age to the present and representing cultures from all over the world. The hydria from Grächwil, the Burgundian tapestries, the diptych from Königsfelden and a series of ethnographical objects as well as coins and medals are all internationally renowned. Besides these, other highlights of the permanent exhibitions include the spectacular Bernese sculptures, two Bernese mayoral thrones and much more. The integrated Einstein Museum offers an account of the life and work of the physicist and places it in a fascinating manner in the context of world history. Temporary exhibitions are regularly staged in the generously proportioned exhibition hall.

Outstanding museum. Our teenage granddaughter was totally into the exhibit and eagerly read every bit of information. Audio guide was excellent. The story of Albert Einstein's life is told within the backdrop of the political climate of Europe. Extremely well done and worth while.

Not sure I received the full experience - I thought I read about English audio guides, but they were not provided. I thought I was buying a ticket to the whole museum, but received only a pass for the Einstein Museum. Some corridors led you...More

This museum far exceeded our expectations. There are so many different things to see and learn. Give yourself at least 2 hours to explore all the exhibits.

While they have other exhibits, Einstein exhibit is the reason most likely you would want to go for. The exhibit is not laid out as a one way walk thru. We begin the center walk to one end, turn back and walk the other side....More

It's a great museum. They have stuff from the old old city of Bern, Bern History, Bern people of note, a floor of Einstein information (my husband loved that part) and the broken but original statues of the final judgement. The also had some Switzerland...More

I was a bit confused when I saw the Bern historical museum is also the cultural museum and the Einstein museum. However, it's all linked by history and it was all very fascinating. I even liked the Einstein museum, not being a fan of science,...More

The most interesting exhibition within the Bern Historical Museum should be the Einstein exhibition. Major events of Einstein's personal and professional life are presented in details. Agree with the other reviewer's comment - the rest of the Historical Museum is average compared to London standards.

This is a small museum by London standards and the range of exhibits is equally limited. The Egyptian room is just that. A couple of sarcophagi and a few artifacts. It's a calm, peaceful place by not a big, fun day out. We did not...More

I enjoyed the Einstein part of this museum. If you have any interest in this brilliant man you should find this interesting. It has lots of information and memorabilia about Einstein and his family. I did not visit the other parts of the museum. It...More
