If you know the history of the North face of the Eiger, you will know that the little hamlet of Alpiglen plays an important part. Situated on the meadows below the North face it is where many climbers have pitched their tents before going onto the mountain. In itself it is a beautiful little haven with a guesthouse with large... More

We three stopped here overnight on our trek across Switzerland on the Via Alpina. After the touristy crowds and ridiculous prices at Kleine Scheidegg, Alpiglen was a welcome respite. It is located on its own, just below the North Face of the Eiger. Views in all directions are world-class. Meals are excellent, as well our rooms. We were welcomed warmly... More

We love hiking to this little restaurant/hotel; then we sit, have a rosti and beer, sometimes read a book, talk to other hikers coming in and, then usually, catch the train about 100 yards away back to our Grindelwald base

Worth a detour for the apple fritters. Doughnut sized dumplings containing a whole apple. Sold as 3 or 7. Three are enough for one person.

After a long, hot hike we stopped here for a treat and a drink. I had ice cream and was expecting three scoops plopped in to a bowl. Boy was I wrong. I had three of the best tasting flavours of ice cream I've ever had (try the pistachio) in a large bowl, surrounded by whipped cream and topped with... More

Take the train to Alpiglen which is the start (if acsending) of the Eiger trail. If you are not intending that walk still a good place to see the Eiger from, with a hostelry nearby.

Sure, you could be a wimp and start at Eigergletscher Station and walk down to Alpiglen, but why do the easy way when you could start here? Super cute station, and well marked signs to the trail. Have fun on the trail!

We walked from Alpiglen down to Grindelwald and from Kleine Scheidegg to Alpiglen and both were wonderful walks through meadows of the most beautiful alpine flowers imaginable. The views were amazing and the alpine cows are extremely friendly!!

Not an exciting place but a good end/start for a walk. There is a frequent train service but not much else

You can toboggan from Kleine Scheidegg to Alpiglen but the best run is from Alpiglen to Brandegg. You have a choice of routes - steep or easy
