The highest cable car station in Europe (3,883 m), with its new restaurant, sets fresh standards in sustainable development. The views of the highest mountains in Italy, France and Switzerland are breathtaking. The ski area on the Theodul Glacier is open 365 days a year.

Matterhorn glacier paradise – a world of adventures. From here, mountaineers and hikers accompanied by mountain guides set off to scale the Breithorn (4,164 m), a 2.5-hour climb up the perennial snows; for many hikers, this is their first ascent of a 4,000-metre peak. On some days, the views from the observation platform are so clear they seem to stretch as far as the Mediterranean. Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in France, the highest mountain in the Alps, towers above its neighbours; the summit of the Gran Paradiso (4,061 m), Italy’s highest peak, is often also visible. The air up here is thin, so visitors should take plenty of time to explore. This is also the summit of the international ski area, open 365 days a year, and the gateway to Europe’s largest summer ski area.

The Matterhorn from a fresh angle

Up here, right by the Italian border, visitors see a very different side of the Matterhorn. This comes as a surprise: the view is very different to the one from the Gornergrat or the Rothorn, it’s as if the Matterhorn has acquired a new look. In fact this vantage point offers the finest view of the mountain’s south face.

Summer training for national ski teams

Anyone seeking the autograph of an international ski star has the best chances of success up at Matterhorn glacier paradise. In summer, nearly all the world’s national ski teams train for the speed disciplines up on the glacier, and all the athletes have to pass through the summit station to access the summer pistes.

All year:

•Audio system on the ride to the summit with information about the alpine world, the cog railway and much more

•Observation platform with summit cross, photo point and information panel on the mountain panorama

•Inside the mountain: observation window looking out over the Breithorn

•Cinema Lounge

•Restaurant with shop

•Matterhorn glacier paradise lodge with accommodation

•Meeting room

•Glacier palace, the highest in Europe

•Direct access to the ski pistes (365 days a year, including on the Theodul Glacier)

•Ski pistes linked to Italy (both winter and summer)

•Photo subjects: Matterhorn, Breithorn, Weisshorn and other celebrity mountains

•InfoCube - 3S Bahn

Summer:

•Summer ski area, 21 km of piste

•Snow Park Zermatt at the Plateau Rosa

•Snowtubing

The piste is well maintained. Careful management of the area ensures the crevasses are out of bounds. Good cafe facilities. But as ever if you are not Swiss you will find the prices are also sky high.

Take the glacier express all the way to the top of Switzerland/Italy - the deck provides amazing pictures outside and inside the ice museum is a must see attraction. Amazing ice sculptures. We took pictures on the ice kings thrown - they provide all the costumes to take pictures. Very cool - the kids will love it - this older... More

Took the gondolas up to the matterhorn glacier paradise- a bit costly (100 CHF) but i think worth the money. The trip begins at the far end of Zermatt village and involves several spectacular gondola rides to reach the top, where there is a glacier palace, great views ,a small cafetria style restaurant, a snow tube ride, and a ski... Don't miss this it's a must do, even if you don't want to ski. Be aware, the temperature will be much colder than you think, so dress appropriately!

Matterhorn is the most beautiful and picture perfect mountain. Because its all four sides have very steep edges and so many casualties while trying to chase the mountain peak, the Italian and Swiss government has banned the tracking and mountain climbing on mighty matterhorn. Matterhorn glacier paradise, also known as kline matterhorn is the place from which you can see... More

The view and scenery are simply wonderful and it offers year round skiing. It is not even necessary to bring your own equipment as everything is rentable in Zurich. The winter was mild this past year but has come in with some interesting snow this May whereas April was apparently very nice with lots of sunshine. Runs range from very... More

Words are not enough to describe the views from this location. It was very cold here my be around -10 Deg C in the last week of April. One has to carry heavy winter stuff to enjoy the beauty at this location. Restaurant at this location was overpriced and can be avoided. Rest room was chargeable in the Restaurant.

We spent a week hiking in Switzerland and this experience was one of the best. The view was stunning! It felt like you were in heaven. We thought it was worth every penny. It was a beautiful hike down to Zermatt from one of the lower cable car stations. Don't miss this trip!

It is worth the trip, but pricey to go up 💰. Good things to do up there: a movie place with all stuff Matterhorn, great panaroma viewing platform, cute ice museum, and a restaurant. We were only a few that did not ski and went back the same way. Being up there made me decide to take skiing lessons back... More
