Grab a hotel or tourist information map and walk the suggested route through the old town. It can be a little hard to follow at times but you can't go too far wrong and may discover some delights of your own. Altstadt is quaint and...More

I found it really nice to walk the old streets and the shops, occasionally passing by something unusual such as a musical instrument repair shop.

You can walk through old town in about a 1/2 hour. Old European cities are great to walk through, but there isn't a lot to do or see here. No major attractions or old architecture. The restaurants are plentiful, but nondescript and expensive.

We spent a few hours wandering around the old town. There are some beautiful buildings, including of course the Grossmunster church with its twin spires and beautiful Giacometti stained glass windows. Winding streets, interesting shops, many places to eat and drink - including some lovely...More

Spent several days in Zurich in May 2017 on business. This place is AMAZING. Very clean city, friendly people, lots to see and do! Be sure to take a boat tour around Lake Zurich. Great way to see the outskirts of town, enjoy a beer...More

Shopping opportunities dominate, but restaurants (try the Sternen Grill for a quick "brat and bread" or the Zeughauskeller in a 16th century armory building) are two must-visits in Altstadt. There are several impressive churches. Also, near the Opera House, an outdoor market/food/beverage plaza is set...More

Lose yourself in 3 to 4 hours Altstadt walk. Don't miss the pedestrian walkways, do some souvenirs shopping and enjoy the architecture of the city buildings.

I agree. I covered a fair bit of the city (not the lake) in about 1 1/2 hours.
Myself and 4 others will have a 6 hour layover tomorrow at 615am. Is it worth it to go anywhere? I've been looking into Old Town. Can anyone give me specific instructions on how to get there from the airport? Such as train instructions and such. Also do people speak much English there? I'm with a few nervous people who aren't sure about leaving the airport and I'd love to go into town. So any help you can give me will ease their minds! Thanks!

Please, ask at an information center/ desk in the airport how to get into the city (direct trains). You can calm down the other members of your group. You can easily go for a walk of about 2 - 3 hours into the city... More
