- Phillip LMelbourne, Australia364 contributionsPicturesque, but better to come.........Lake Zurich is a lovely lake in a very picturesque area and as our first introduction to Switzerland and the many city lakes, it was a great first impression. Plus, the weather was perfect. The lake is lined with houses and interesting little beaches, a number of ferry stops and a lot of greenery and is a hive of boating activity. While one can catch a ferry from one stop to another, there are also formal boat cruises - all you have to do, is to decide on what duration cruise you would like to do, between the Mini Cruise, Short Cruise and Long Cruise. Google it to help with your decision, but whatever you do in Zurich, make sure a lake cruise is one of your activities.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- mahatinu223 contributionsPleasant lake cruise, stopping in RapperswilAs we had the Swiss Travel Pass, a boat trip on Lake Zurich was included. We did the four hour trip, and stopped at Rapperswil where we spent some time before catching the boat back to the main pier. It was pleasant enough, on a slightly cloudy day, but some of the other lakes in this beautiful country are probably even more scenic, such as Lake Lucerne. Note that they provide catering on the boat (food and drink) and if you happen to be sitting in those sections of the boat when it is lunchtime then you will be asked to vacate your seat!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- Roberts69Northampton, United Kingdom18,888 contributionsA great way to spend a couple of hours in Zurich. When I was in Zurich and had a couple of hours to kill ahead of a business meeting I walked down to the Burkliplatz and took the Short Lake Cruise. This 1.5 hour duration cruise costs just CHF8.80 for an Adult and was a very pleasant trip that went down as far as Erlenbach on the NE shore of the Lake and then across to Thalwil on the SW shore of the lake. The boat makes 8 stops during the 1.5 hour trip and food and drinks can be purchased on the boat. It is certainly great value for money and a nice way to see the beautiful Lake Zurich (Zurichsee).Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 November 2023
- PrimeCritiqueWinchester, United Kingdom58 contributionsThe cream or the more accurately, the pudding of Europe's prettiest cityBeautiful lake. Boat travel with ZVV or Limmatschiff is included as part of the Zurich public transport day ticket, (the distance you can travel depends on the zones you paid for on your travel pass. If you have just Zurich city - zone 110 , then you can travel until Zurichorn, Enge, and other points within Zurich city. You can buy food and drinks and it is an especially beautiful experience on a day with nice weather. It is the lake Zurich that I believe is the primary feature that make Zurich, Europes's prettiestVisited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 December 2023
- Margaret M2 contributionsLake Zurich is a must see. Go for the Alps stay for the swansDo not miss a visit to Lake Zürich. It is beautiful and fun. It is nearby great restaurants and in the summer people jump in near the bridge providing a lot of entertainment if you are just sitting on the wall eating your lunch. We took a day trip here from Frankfurt, and really enjoyed our time together in this beautiful city.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 February 2024

From the many Swans swimming around to the snow covered mountains in the background-great pictures are everywhere. - Kamal PByron Bay, Australia8,866 contributionsNice environment to chill-offLake Zurich while adding beauty to the city was having a fantastic environment for cooling off. Very relaxing space with a park in one bank with paved pathways providing the access to areas where one could engage in water sports like sailing or swimming. It was evident that this area was popular with sun bathers and picnickers as well. We too spend time relaxing under the shade of the trees on the bank, watching bird life and activities that were going on in water.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 April 2024
- aneesh_menonBengaluru, India56 contributionsAmazingZurich Lake is centrally located and gives an amazing view of the Alps ... The trip on a boat around the entire lake takes approximately an hour and you have an option to dine.. There are few stops along the way if you need to get down to explore Zurich ... Nice ride and a great view along with the weather makes it a must visit for families, children, couples or anyone who simply love picturesque view .. Go for it ...Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 June 2024
- Dholakia2014Rajkot, India409 contributionsBeautiful pearl of ZurichLake Zurich is the wonderful lake .. last time 6 years ago we missed to visit it as we had less time, but this time it was a top priority. The lake is beautiful and offers many recreational facilities for holidaying or relaxing. The lake is surrounded by picturesque landscapes with the Swiss Alps visible at a distance. The shoreline is dotted with parks, beaches and promenades thereby making it popular for outdoor activities. We had taken 4 hours city tour in which one hour small cruise tour was included. Otherwise tours on the lake are nominally priced and allow visitors to explore the lake and its surroundings. We crossed the lake in a ferry when visiting the Felsenegg vantage point. This ride is a little over 10 minutes of which you can have free time to enjoy the views for about 8 minutes. We were fortunate to see the Alps from a distance. No visit to Zurich is complete without seeing Lake Zurich.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 June 2024
- mayccm2018Hong Kong, China1,061 contributionsWonderful lake boat tripThere were different boat rides then we chose 1.5 hours short lake cruise that allowed the visitors to admire the lake and its surroundings. The scenery of the lake was attractive and made us more comfortable through lake breeze. Affordable price. Relaxing. Wonderful lake boat trip. Hope can try a long lake cruise next time to explore more.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 June 2024

I was in Zurich over the New Year holiday. NYE the shops close early. If you want dinner on NYE, book somewhere more than a few days in advance. Fireworks are displayed over Lake Zurich from 3 different barges and you can view from anywhere on the coast of the lake. The streets just off the lake are closed to traffic and are jam-packed with people, outdoor music events, food trucks and so much more. The firework display happens at 1220am not at 12 midnight like most places in the US. Theno outdoor holiday party ever happened. I strolled the same area the next morning and was quiet, peaceful and found some places open to eat but no shopping could be display occured for about 1/2 hour but there were low clouds that night and not the best for clear views for the high ones. When everything was all said and done, garbage and party debris was everywhere, but by morning the streets and parks were clean like done. Lake Zurich I would imagine would be a summer dream for those who love water sports, swimming as it is known for many summer activities.

We took the mid-size cruise on The Zürich Lake which takes 1,5h. It is a hop-on and hop-off trip, so there are opportunities to get off to explore the areas. Watch The Operahouse and the Churces from the seefront. The price for adults was CHF 8,80 which I find reasonable. I missed getting more information about what was experienced as we sailed by. The boats are operated by Zurichsee and they have longer as well as shorter trips.

It’s just been confirmed - we’ve experienced the wettest February on record! It’s hard to believe after a weekend in beautiful Zurich, where the sun shone for the whole 4 days,
The lake is huge, and we were able to see it from up above as we took the train to one of the highest points in Zurich. Where we also experienced fantastic views.
We tried walking around the lakes, but it’s too big, but did mange an hour on both sides. Absolutely stunning, especially with the backdrop of the snow-peaked alps surrounding it.

We did the lake cruise on a rather dull and wet day, but it was still beautiful. There is lots to see on the shores, I love being on the water and whilst it was a little wet to be outside most of the time, there were moments that I could go out and take photos. Food and drinks are available and staff are friendly. I loved it!

Lake of Zurich offers for me and my familiy all what you can expect from a lake. The warher is very clear, there are ducks, swans, fishes and other animals. There are many places to swim, we rent a Pedalo boat with rhe kids or just walk along the bank. There are everywhere many food places, shops and restaurants. The city of Zurich with its lake is one of the nicest place in the world. We also did several times tours with the ships with a lunch stop on the small island, having a ice cream in Rapperswil and back by train. Have a look and enjoy.

The lake is very big. From one bank you can barely make out the end of the other bank. Plus I believe this place is a very popular getaway among the rich class, which one can easily make out from the number of yachts floating around. However, not just the yachts that were amply floating around, there were also ducks, swans and lots of other birds.

... I still recommend to visit lake Zurich and have a stroll around. There isn’t much to do in winter time, and most of the lakeside restaurants are closed, but the views of the lake once the clouds move are marvellous.
Walk down the Gold Coast southwards and enjoy the different perspectives of lake + mountains.

You can spend hours by the lake and enjoy yourself. This lake is located in the midst of many touristic sights, cafes, restaurants, etc. If you are in Zurich, you'll definitely find yourself near the lake several times and will appreciate the beauty and peace every single time.

While in Zürich we took a short lake cruise, roundtrip in 90 mns from the Bürkliplatz. We already had a day ticket on the ZVV (public transport) and taking the cruise only cost us 4frs each or so as a supplement. To say that it was great value for money is an understatement. We had a light lunch - table service - and a couple of drinks. The entire experience was a lot of fun!

Do you know if this is included in the Swiss Travel Pass?
Written 11 August 2019
Tours are quite expensive and until end of October it’s too hot for a tour. Better you choose a place you want to see (💕(Grand Mosque, Qasr al Hosn, Emirates Palace, Ethiad Towers, the Corniche etc) and take a taxi. They are very cheap. Or take a bus. You find on Google the bus lines. And don’t miss the Louvre.

I’m swim regularly for fitness & have open water experience. I will be in Zurich from October to mid November. Do people swim in Lake Zurich in non-summer months? Would I look odd wearing a wetsuit?
