We went here because we needed to find something to do for an hour on a rainy day. So glad we walked here. This is a library that is not to be missed, especially with children. It is gorgeous and almost like an art gallery because it's so beautiful, well laid out and had interesting collections. The 8th floor had... More

The newly(ish) built five floor library is well worth a visit. They have worked up some innovative approaches to study spaces that were worth a look, and the cafe on the top floor has views over the city that would be quite impressive in the summer months when they open the balcony.

What a place to find. We spent a rainy morning enjoying English kids books on the children's library floor. This is a huge area with books, comfy seats, a wig wam, huge polar bear and mouse dolls house to explore. A stunning space, helpful staff, huge buffet on top floor. An inspirational library for the world to behold and replicate.

My wife kept pushing for us to go the the library. In Amsterdam. Um, what? I'm on vacation! We ended up having some time before our train out, and did the less than ten minute walk from Centraal Station to the Central Library. It was, surprisingly, quite worth it. The library itself was impressive - massive in scale and far... More

It's a strange city when a new library is one of the highlights . We'd been told to go and have a look, but really? A library? Well, you know what, it's well worth a visit. We were staying in the west of the city and it was a decent bike ride, despite the snow. The library is close to... More

Nipped in here after being recommended. Lovely modern building wit a brilliant view at the top and a really nice cafe as well.

Libraries are not must-see top tourist attractions, but this is a fine example of how libraries could be built in this century. It was bright and well-signed, easy to find the English and music sections. We didn't analyze the collection, of course, but I'd love to have this in my Milwaukee neighborhood.

My aim was to get to the restaurant in the top floor to have a coffee and enjoy some views of the city. Despite it was raining, I spent a nice time there. I also had a quick look at the lowest floor, which is devoted to children. There were some lovely displays and cute sculptures.

Anyone who loves books as much as I do, will adore this library, you name a subject and they have books about it, but apart from that they have a fabulous exposition space on the 3rd floor covered in photos of Rico d'Rozario/ A former drummer turned photographer who just about photographed any and all music worldstars, from Miles to... Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
