We booked tickets online the same day, walked up to the museum and got straight in. We did the main part of the museum for a couple of hours, then had an afternoon tea break in the coffee shop before seeing some of the additional exhibits. We really enjoyed it, I was surprised you were able to take photographs around... More

This is an incredible museum. It houses so many interesting artefacts and beautiful works of art. It contains some of the best work done by masters, notably Rembrandt. I would highly recommend visiting this museum and spending considerable time here appreciating the art.

This was our favorite museum in Amsterdam. We arrived at around 10:30 and had a bookings.com ticket. We used the free audio tour from the Rijks app and it was great! The museum was not too crowded - the rooms are large and it is easy to move around. It took us about 2 hours to go through most of... More

One of the most important museums in the world, specially if you like flamish painters. The biggest collection of Rembrandt paintings.

I loved the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam; we spent a good day here. It is elegantly organised and fitted with restaurants, cafes and family-friendly facilities such as changing rooms, etc. The museum itself has an enormous collection, and it is something that you should see. It is at least a 4-5 hour-long trip. Families with small children should look up the... More

Lots to see so plan and avoid overkill. Get advance tickets and go early. Leave coats and bags in safe free cloakroom otherwise its a long way to carry with you. Start at top and woerk down.

If you like history this is the place you need to go to. It was a very interesting place with a lot of things to look at and get lost in the time of day. It's also very crowded so one should purchase the tickets beforehand

This is the gem of Amsterdam. Rijksmuseum has many great collections of fine paintings which deserve at least half a day, if not more, to go through them. The overall design of the exhibition halls are spacious. Like other great museums, it offers the audio guide in many languages. For some large and prominent pieces, there are description cards (in... I was not impressed with this museum. The layout was confusing and very crowded. There is a nice assortment of art in this very large museum that seemed like a maze.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
