Full of hustle and bustle, just what you'd expect with a central square. Not really one to let young kids loose in though.

You could spend a whole day/night, just in this small area. It has everything, make sure you do a thorough walk around and take it all in!

O.K. the Palace is impressive, and can be gawked at for an hour, and the square is good for a pause / piknik, but other than that it is just a large concreate square, so I only recommend a one hour visit, hope this has been of help for you...

You come out of Central train and open Dam Square welcomes you. view is amazing as many boats are on the port and lot of tourists roaming and this place has some energy. Old Buildings talk of history they have witnessed. A must do tourist destination when in Amsterdam. Lot of restaurants to satisfy your taste buds.

Hard to really know what to say about this ...it's a big square in front of the former Royal Palace....now a museum....haven't been inside so won't comment other than to say the building could use a good scrub....for a Royal palace it's pretty grubby and dirty. The square is often the site of protest or demonstrations and such but to... More

An important place to see in Amsterdam. Just walking distance from the train station. It is surrounded by many hotels and attractions like National monument and Madame Tussaud. The square is beautiful and a great spot for taking pictures.

fabulous and lively place to be. The Black cobble stoned streets and the mesmerising old dutch buildings adds to the charm of the place.

Great place to visit in the day and even more so of an evening as the lighting on the buildings makes it all the more intense and romantic. There are some guys dressed as grim reapers which are very amusing and photos can be taken with them for a small donation. Nearby is Madame Tussaud's and plenty of shops/stores nearby.... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
