Stuffed full of Van Gogh paintings and many other artists, the exhibits focus firmly on impressionism. If this period and style is to your liking, then you should definitely go, if not, it can be avoided without feeling like you missed out.

Although the art was not very ingesting to me - his story was. I was very surprised to know how much he suffered and how sad his life ended.

Great to learn more about Van Gogh and his troubled life. Surprised that 'Starry Night' was not displayed are merely mentioned.

What a collection of Van Gogh's art and stories. I particularly liked how the museum was laid out to tell the story of his life with corresponding pieces of his work. A must see while in Amsterdam.

I love Van Gogh and his reproductions. This museum is in heart of Amsterdam. When you buy I Amsterdam city card you go quickly in line to pick up entrance ticket. Inside of museum you can buy lot of souvenirs. I enjoyed everything in this museum.

I know who Van Gogh was but really didn't know the history... Walking through this museum I found it really interesting the life of Van Gogh. Get your tickets in advance since it could sell out and/or the lines to get in.

Van Gogh may have died a starving artist, but art lovers will hunger for his works at the Van Gogh Museum. Three floors, hundreds of breath taking and inspirational pictures from this true Dutch master. This is educational as well as entertaining.

With 3 different floors of Van Gogh work, if you are an art buff this is the place to go. It is quite expensive for a gallery at €17 each but well worth a visit.

I am really glad I found the time to visit this museum, even though we showed up with only 90 min left before closing. I found it really interesting to see how his art progressed as he went through his life and illness.

Seeing the works of Van Gogh live is wonderful. There are many activities to appreciate the technique of the teacher, scanner, magnifying glasses, etc. There is also a lot of documentary material. A "mandatory" visit

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
