This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

First time in Amsterdam and didn’t know what to expect. Definitely worth a look,we grabbed a coffee and strolled around. It wasn’t half as seedy/dodgy as I had anticipated. We both felt quite safe. Would recommend checking it out.

There’s not much to see, not much to do, unless you’re looking for “services offered” - it’s not family friendly, feels a little sleazy, tacky and just not somewhere I’d recommend wasting any longer than 30 minutes.

If you want to see the red light district and you are not in search for a lady and her services, go with a tour. The tour guide will show you around with the overwhelming crowd and will remind you of the proper etiquette. Don't...More

Very beautiful and colorful streets. Highly recommended to be visited during late evenings. There are some museums down the streets which has to be viewed first.

Lots of bars to visit, Very colourful and interesting. A place to visit with friends but more than likely not family due to its nature.

It’s not about prostitution, it’s like a part of your Amsterdam experience, ladies once they notice your trying to take any picture or selfie immediately start hiding and this is the funny part of this experience

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some

There's a lot to do in Amsterdam and a lot of beautiful things to see so avoid red light there's really no point and have a walk between the canals all around the town.

Fridays and Saturdays the district is packed, it gets a tiny bit quieter on Sundays, even in high season, so it would definitely make sense. Besides, following the pack, touring the neighborhood caravan-style up and down the... More
