One of the bargain tips we've picked up during our Amsterdam research is probably the most economical breakfast in town - at the department store Hema it's possible to buy a baguette with an omelette and bacon, with a croissant and jam and a coffee...More

..most people seem to be drawn here for the very cheap food. We had coffee and an omelette (with bacon) at a cost of just 1.5 euro. The cakes did look very nice too. Even have some larger ones for take-out.

Its hard to imagine a similar place in the uk though I suppose that a much smaller version of IKEA will do. However, the real draw fr the Dutch is the cheap food. Pretty good for the price too.

I enjoyed shopping at Hema. You can find anything from household items, stationeries, accessories, clothing to food items at a relatively affordable price. Visitors could also enjoy breakfast/tea time treats for EUR 1-5. Clean toilets are readily available at Hema too. Great place for families.
