This shop is admired by the local patrons who insist on excellent cheese! Sample the zwaluw and the oude adel and you will be in heaven. The shop will vacuum cheese for travel at no extra charge. There is another location (reached by the #10 Tran) at Czaar Peterstraat 137 which is not a large, but totally exceptional!

The best place to buy your favorite french cheese. A beautiful shop along one of the canals in Amsterdam. Here you can expect to buy the best cheese. They will ask you when you will eat it because they want you to enjoy it at its best:mature but fresh. Advise: Take some time to sit on the staircase in the... More

Think about it: you are walking peacefully into The Jordaan neighborhood, when the atmosphere becomes full of cheese smell.... If you like cheese, you'll feel like in a paradise. It's a small shop, but full, with more than one hundred cheese types. French, Dutch and others... Let me complete the scene please: delicious bread, and cheap but so tasty red... More

Sitting below canal level in the split level basement-sub-basement fromagerie. This place has an exquisite array of the most wicked and well-crafted fermented raw milk cheese from (very) small scale cheese-producers in France, Belgium, Netherlands and UK (and sometimes some other European lands). Book ahead and do a cheese platter tasting (10 € a head for each plate + matching... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
