The oldest café of Amsterdam. It was built directly at the harbour of Amsterdam in 1606 and used to be an inn for sailors and tradesmen. Nowadays, Café Karpershoek is a “bruine kroeg” (brown pub). Here you can have a drink in a real Amsterdam atmosphere. Have the innkeeper pour you a Heineken while you have a conversation with a local customer.

Lovely old pub near Central Station

Wife and I stopped by for few drinks on our way back to our B&B. Place reeks of history a traditional Brown Bar with lovely ambience and a great staff.

Had a beer here when passing. Lots of original features, this place is old school and authentic. Nice ale, nice staff, busy when we went....try the berry beer, this is a nice option for the ladies or those who don't like lager/local darker beers. Stumbling distance from the central station and very worth a drink and a chat. If you... More

The place might be nice for certain tourists except for those who might feel ill. Saw an elegant elderly man victim of a fainting fit at the terrace who was in the verge of collapsing. After 20 minutes, the waiter came and asked if he was ok before being followed by the manager who asked the man to leave at... More

Fun, small bar with old beams and exposed wood, sloped floors in front of the bar - from centuries of patrons standing there? all makes for a cool experience. We stopped in for a few beers and to stay out of the rain on a day of wandering around. Friendly staff, good beer choices.

We visited, well we had too, it's the oldest bar in Amsterdam and that makes it "the law". Anyway, lovely helpful staff, good beer, great atmosphere and overall just a great time in the pub. What more can I want??? B

It was a nice place. Good selection and easy to get to from central station (across the street). We went late and I think the bartenders were ready to go but mostly friendly.

After visiting Anne Franks House and strolling along the canals. It was nice to sit in the sun, for a couple of hours , sipping interesting beers, relaxing and watching the thousands of cyclist that use the nearby junction. Found the staff and customers friendly and engaging

Good beer, great vibe, just the place to watch the world go by or shelter from the rain! We always call in when in Amsterdam and understand I is the oldest pub in the city.

Staff were very friendly, beer was good. It was packed when we saw it first but when we wandered past later we got a seat. It'san old-style bar, not a restaurant (to my knowledge) and a nice place to have a few relaxed pints.
