The zoo was a lot bigger than we expected. It had interesting animals and we spent most of the day there. The only disappointment was that we didn't get to see the lions or the gorillas, and the reptile house was closed.

I love to go and visit zoos when away and this zoo had quite a range of animals I seen animals I had never seen before so it was a great experience. The only thing I would fault would be the food in the restaurant as there wasn't much selection e.g. Hot food but overall was a good day out

Massive zoo, a lot to see id say at least prepare for 2 hours to look around, not much in the gift shop and ended up buying nothing but over all was good to see all the animals and the penguins are the cutest

Make sure to keep a full day free as we only planned to spend 4 hours and could have easily spent much longer! A wide range of animals and insects with plenty that you can engage with on your route around. My children loved the sea lions and butterflies the most but there is something for everyone. In addition to... More

Lacking a bit on the feline area, Try the apple cake on the boulangerie, it's delicious and a great break after a long day of pacing between the cute animals

Didn't expect to see much here but what a great day out. The zoo has really nice gardens and loads of animals to see such a great day be better if weather was warmer but will be coming again as we didn't get to stay longer as park closed at 5. Loved the baby elephant so cute

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
