Wonderful performances but I remain baffled why they would accept such a profoundly ugly and inappropriate building design. It clashes with the historic surrounding buildings and presents a visual eye sore. It's no Sydney Opera House. I love Holland but I wish their penchant for goofy modern buildings was reigned in a bit. Go to the wonderful performance but shield... More

I keep coming back as the performances are special each time. Even with simple lightning a memorable show is created. I do not advise the vine in this place. The staff is always friendly & helping

Performance was breathtaking. I totally enjoyed. Mezmerizing. It's a total experience of dance, dancers and music. My favourites this time? Ballet 4, 2, 3 and 1. In that order. The Muziektheater is within easy reach of public transport. Drinks can be ordered beforehand, to avoid queues, either online or upon arrival. There are 2 breaks.

We have been to this opera house two times. In March 2016 seeing Khovanshchina by Mussorgsky and in February 2017 seeing Prince Igor by Borodin. This opera house knows how to do grand Russian operas. After both the performances we were stunned! What a marvellous chorus and orchestra. The conductors were great and the staging were both times great. The... More

We ent to see two shows of the Dutch ballet: Made in Amsterdam. The two shows are magnificent and show the creativity of Choreographers that have worked in Amsterdam. I was drive to tears by Erica Horwood, who in my opinion deserves to be a soloist in the troupe. Her elegance and perfection in a mirror with her male colleague... More

The performance shows extraordinary creativity in dancing, the colors of the dresses, etc. But mostly as an expression of emotions into dance. Each of the four pieces was different and unique.

I was very lucky to be able to visit the Dutch National Opera & Ballet house to watch Alexander Borodin's ''Prins Igor'' Amazing performance from everyone involved with an impressive playing from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra with his young conductor .

I saw Coppelia on New Year's Eve and was so excited to see a very talented ballet dancer playing the lead of the girl who is meant to get married... On my birthday I received her autobiography... the story of an orphan girl from Siera Leon adopted by a US family. I have been brought to tears several times at... More

Loved the apple pie and the nougat. Truly Impressed with... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
