Singel

This is another impressive canal that we strolled around. Go there if you would have time to take another scenic tour.

Oldest and innermost of all the canals in the city, the Singel was a defensive moat surrounding the city till the 16th century when the city expanded beyond it. It still has many of Amsterdam's landmarks along its banks like the Centraal station, flower market, DeWallen and the Old Lutheran church.

We stayed at a hotel on the single. Great location within easy walking distance to everything. The canal has lots of great houses to look at and a lot of restaurants and shops too.

This canal is the most beautiful one in Amsterdam. Riding a boat in the canal is good. On the other hand it looks beautiful while in walking.

This canal encircled the medieval city of Amsterdam and served as a moat around the city from 1480 until 1585, the time when Amsterdam enlarged beyond Singel Canal. Been in this very center of Amsterdam, near the Dam Square, we profited the chance to see this very beautiful canal, that runs from IJ Bay, near Central Station to the Muntplein... More

4 of us rented a small boat, for four hours and just drove down the canals, Singel is wonderful, especially in Spring, when the funny trees on every side of every canal starts to bloom, green, and when the sun shines through it, you just see the real, full, color and beauty of Amsterdam, Singel, it's crooked houses and bricks.... The Singel, just as much as the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht canals, exudes Amsterdam romance and class. Stand at one of the balustrades on its many bridges and embrace, enjoying a stunning sunset backlighting Amsterdam's many architectural blessings.

Quaint nice area. Lots of good restaurants and cafes. Easy walk from dam square. This will be a better option for food than the touristy options near dam square

We seemed to have this canal to ourselves that enabled the driver to stop several times for photo opportunities. Therefore a good time to start the cruise is in the morning before 10.00.
