We tried out this museum without really knowing much about Frans Hals. It turns out that not only is he one of the great 'Dutch Golden Age' artists but also that it is his 350 year celebration. The exhibition therefore contained additional works from the Budapest Szépmüvészeti museum.

The Frans Hals museum is not that big and has beautiful paintings from great artists. It is located in the heart of Haarlem in a picturesque street. It has a nice museum shop and a good cafe. In summer you can sit outside. Of course, it is well known of its old masterpieces. However, many times they have special exhibits... More

If you have the chance to visit you should! This is a lovely gem of a museum in Haarlem just a quick train ride (15 minutes) from Centraal Station in Amsterdam. It is an easy walk to the museum from the station in Haarlem and the art is fabulous. The dollhouse is especially wonderful to see.

Nice small museum, with great works by the artist. The audio guides were free and good. My only complaint was the main room for Hals' works was hidden off the main circuit, and I missed seeing it the first time, but apart from tht enjoyed the museum. Cute street too.

The museum have a fantastic selection of Golden Age dutch art on loan from the Budapest Museum until mid February which was an extra treat. Most of the paintings were portraiture. Lovely rooms/fireplaces.

We visited the Frans Hals Museum because it was included in our ‘Museum Card’. Otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered paying 12.50 euro for what seems, after all, a minor museum. The site is very picturesque but only part of it is really old; the rest is an early 20th century neo-Renaissance reconstruction. In the 17th century there was an old... More

The present exhibition of Dutch Masters belonging to the Szépmuvészeti Museum in Budapest are one of the best collection of Dutch art in the world. But don't forget the own Frans Hals collection of this Haarlem museum. Many people prefer Frans Hals over Rembrandt because of his specific art of handling the strokes of his brush

The Frans Hals Museum was our first museum on our visit to Amsterdam. We stayed in Haarlem and the museum was within walking distance of our rental apartment. This was the first time we had seen Frans Hals works and we were very pleased. the museum was preparing for a special exhibit so we didn't all rooms or works of... More

We visited Frans Hals museum in Haarlem in a very hot day. Inside it was cool and friendly. They present in this museum a large variety of paintings, of many artists and many styles. There is a room of the 17th century with it's settings and decorations, a pharmacy, complete with even the smallest items, rebuilt for preservation. Several painters... More

I really enjoyed the Frans Hals Museum. The collection is a must-see if you are visiting Haarlem. A combined ticket with the Teylers Museum is the best way to go about visiting.
