We arrived on the ferry from Volendam. Very pretty small harbour where apparently the houses were built on stilts (although you can't see them now). I don't believe much fishing goes on these days - tourism is the main form of income for the village....More

Loved this little village. It's amazing how many little shops and restaurants there are. It was once a bustling fishing village but now it's tourism that keeps it going. Quite a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam.

Very quite fishing village, although it is only about 1/2 hours drive from Amsterdam. A place where you actually could consider to retire at.

This is a very nice, small fishing village (located about 22 km from Amsterdam) with traditional Dutch wooden houses. Tourism now is a major source of revenue for this village. Another attraction is a wooden show factory, where sightseers can see how the shoes are...More

Visited Marken when it was an island about 60 yrs ago. Not a lot has changed but I did NOT see anyone in their original dress/costume. Streets are narrow and hard to tell when it’s a one way or a dead end

We did visit Marken which is a nice village, but this review is about how we got there and to other places by an amazingly cheap day trip on EBS buses. We went to the Amsterdam Central Railway Station and walked through to the rear...More

This was a nice excursion. The town on the island is beautiful. Worth walking or renting a bike to discover the town. There are a lighthouse and a shoe factory.

Our 3 day Amsterdam and Region Travel Ticket covered the transport to Marken. The bus goes through a long causeway to reach this tiny island, and the drive is beautiful. The harbour is a short walk from the bus station, and there are farms with...More

It's tourist prices everywhere. There is a big shop halfway the two. But it's not different. Since it's a tourist thing at large you pay tourist prices. Still very reasonable for what you are getting but do try them on and... More
