Visit this museum and learn about dutch life as well as the rest of the world. There was no exhibition when we went, so we were given gifts to compensate - booklet, postcards, free coffee. There's a great café down stairs. In the afternoon, sadly didn't get back to it, they had hands on craft workshops.

There are 4+ rooms on different floors, with a lift between them. Cafe on the ground floor. Unfortunately the room for art and history was being refurbished so we couldn't see this but we're given tokens for a free coffee. One floor was devoted to hand work such as cabinet making or lace making. Another had an interesting exhibition of... More

Did enjoy the room with the films about the battle scenes against the Spanish but was quite disappointed that there was nothing about Zeeland during Napoleonic times or World War 2 or about the Flood in 1953. There could have been a lot more about the VOC and the roll Holland had in world trade during the Golden Age.

The museum is a mix of modern design and old architecture offering an insight into the art and history of Walcheren. For me the historic tapistries were a highlight as well as the roman archeological finds from the Domburg area.

I didn't go inside the museum but the building is part of the Abbey of Our Lady. I do not know why there isn't a separate listing for it because it is certainly a "do not miss" site in Middleburg! The origins of the abbey go back to the 12th century!

This museum is packed with fascinating items and a visit is essential for a flavour of Middelburg. The huge tapestries of the Zeeland sea battles have recently been restored and now look absolutely stunning.

I don't know if I was disappointed just because I expected something different or if it really was just poorly done. We went straight to the "history" level and...there was no history. There were displays with various items that may or may not have been found locally. It was not explained...neither were the monkey heads (I presume) in one of... More

For inhabitants as well as tourists it is an interesting museum to visit. The building and surroundings are beautiful, and the collection is worth seeing!
