Lovely serene space...and links to Pilgrim Fathers!

We were walking in the area and decided to go in to see this church which no longer has services but is still in use for events. I didn't realize it at the time but there are... read more

The building itself is fairly plain, nothing really special or out of the ordinary to see, even on a normal day. We were warned on the way in that it wasn't a normal day, as an event was setting up and this would obscure some of our view. This was indeed the case, there was also noisy sound tests going... This de-consecrated church serves many uses in the community. Originally started in the 1100s, it took almost 200 years to build. Here you can find a lot of grave markerdps of various people, including Jan Steen. It was renovated in the 2000s and inside it shows what was discovered . Now it is rented out for events. We once saw... More

The Pieterskerk in Leiden is a late-Gothic church (huge) and best known as the church of the Pilgrim Fathers. The building was deconsecrated in 1971 and since 1975 managed by a foundation and rented for a wide range of events. We had a very special night and clearly the Pieterskerk is one of the top locations for big parties (700... More

The main churches of Leiden are impressive. Red bricks and high pillars. Not very welcoming though. On Xmas day they did not allow foreigners.p

This street is full of book shops, vintage store as I remember. There's a church in this street. It is a lovely place to have a short walk.

We were walking in the area and decided to go in to see this church which no longer has services but is still in use for events. I didn't realize it at the time but there are links to the US Pilgrim fathers which was a bonus for me as I am an American. There is a plaque commemorating the... More

Pieterskerk is interesting to walk by and through and a must see for any American in Leiden because of the pilgrim aspect. The church itself, however, is a typical medieval European cathedral without any unique architectural features.

We enjoyed our visit to this church. First because it is a great old building filled with light. Second because we learned about the historical links from Leiden to the founding fathers of North America. Truly interesting!

Cery classic little area. The streets are paved with bricks. Streets are also narrow and that gives a feel of the past. You must come to see this if you happen to be in Leiden

As a descendant of an American Pilgrim, this was a must stop and see destination. Such history to just walk around and read.
