Being one of the oldest botanical garden of the Netherlands, and one of the oldest in the world, is enough to trigger your curiosity. It's here we're the tulip was born.. If you are Belgian or lived there, do not expect something similar to the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken.. this is just a beautiful botanical garden. 15€ the ticket and... More

It's nice to see how much this place is looked after! There are amazing flowers and an entire section dedicated to Japanese gardens. It's good to come here if you are interested on this kind of turistic attractions. If you study in the Netherlands there are discounts on the entrance (we paid 2 euros each).

At the entrance of the oldest university in the Netherlands in Leiden you can also see the entrance of the Leiden Botanical gardens. A visit here is both interesting and relaxing in summer and winter. The Hortus also houses a great place for lunch or just a cup of great coffee with cake before or after your visit to the... More

I came here while visiting the university. You can visit the cafe without paying an entrance fee to the garden. It was a windy day but I will come back to visit the garden! The cafe's prices are very reasonable.

The entrance of the botanic garden is next to the also famous building of the University of Leiden. Main part of the flora is outside. Via nice maintained small and broader paths one can walk around. It's rather easy accessible for wheelchairs as well. Inside you will find a few famous green houses with exotic flora in excellent condition.

Lovely gardens where they organise tours on Sunday afternoon. Beautiful trees and flowers. Tip: buy their tea! It is delicious.

The gardens are inside the university so they're very easy to find.We went at February probably not the best time to visit cause most of the flowers and plants bloom at spring summer so it was a bit " colourless ". Even so it was really calming with beautiful scenery by the water to have a stroll, drink coffee or... More

I recommend to have one of the garden wardens to lead you around to hear all the stories about the rare plants and trees and where they come from.

The hortus Botanicus is by far one of my favourite places in Leiden. After living there for almost a year, it became one of those places you must visit if you ever come back. With beautiful places, coffee and nature it has everything for being the spot that you will never forget

the glass houses contained a great variety of plants, but Dec obviously not the best time to appreciate the beautiful outdoor gardens and trees. Would love to return here at another time of year.
