Very old (well maintained) and still in service. With wooden escalators. The nice way yo go from left to right river bank or vice versa

While walking through the tunnel I was disappointed that there was no view of the city. Once I came out of the tunnel on the other side I couldn't see the city without my glasses!

A series of old (1930's) wooden escalators take you down to a long straight pedestrian tunnel under the harbour. Interesting technical achievement for its time. Around a 1.2km round trip if you walk the tunnel and return. Or you can just go down one side then take a few steps in to see the tunnel and head back up.

When you visit Antwerp, definitely visit the left bank by trespassing the beneath the river Schelde.

Never seen a comparable pedestrian, cycling tunnel anywhere else. Dated for sure with old elevators and rolling stairs, with its tiled (very) long walls and neon lighting. Do take the trip when visiting Antwerp.

Trough the tunnel you can make a nice walk to the other site of the river. It is in the 1930 style and a good place for phot's

It's a different kind of experience that should be part of any tour of Antwerp. The entrance is close to the historic center anyway. Tip: on the other side you have a nice view on Antwerp but that's really all there is of interest there, so don't walk all the way through & back if you don't feel up to... More

We were stunned at the age of the escalators taking you down to the tunnel. It is worth a visit just to see them. The tunnel is like any other - long and cool.

Loved in 10yrs ago and still feel the same. Provides fantastic photo ops in the tunnel itself and also from the river bank (over looking the city sky line) when you reach the other side. Absolutely worth doing.

If you have some time, try to cross the tunnel, after descending trough a wooden stairs, fabulous! People use this tunnel to cross normally to the other margin of the river, preferably by bike, but it is also a different touristic attraction. The entrance is not easy to find, maybe you'll have to ask.
