A 2 hour lasting tour showing many historical wall carpets. The guide gave a lot of interesting and detailed information. The attic is impressive and there is also modern art to see under the roof. The building itself also has a lot of history and a nice garden. This is a hidden but nice and interesting place, worthwhile the visit.

Went to the Refuge Abbey of Tongerlo, where the Royal Manufactures De Witt are located. Very interesting history and extremely interesting and educational on what involves the production, but especially the restoration of tapestries from all over the world, including the Louvre in Paris. Cannot immagine how intricate these restaurations are. Well worth the visit for families with older kids,... More

If you get a chance to do this tour go and you will never look at a tapestry in the same light again. Our guide An was first class, we learnt about the differences in the periods, cleaning & restoration. We also had a demonstration, which was fascinating, and I hope the skills shown will continue for generations to come.

I had the pleasure of participating in a guided tour of the De Wit Royal Manufacturers of Tapestries. This outfit is the only remaining worldwide establishment to repair and clean antique tapestries in a manner that maximizes their preservation, and museums the world over send their tapestries their for cleaning and preservation. This business is established in a beautiful old... More

De Wit is one of the rare restorers of medieval wall tapestries in Europe. During their tour, held once a week on Saturday morning, they will show you the techniques for cleaning and repair (and demonstrate tapestry making). The historical building, once a refuge within the city walls for monks in troublesome times, has a large number of these ancient... More

The insight our group got into the world of tapestries was fabulous. We had a personal tour. A very experienced lady demonstrated the use of a horizontal loom. We learned how tapestries changed over the centuries. Even more fascinating in the process used to clean, examine, and repair tapestries. They do not try to make it like new but preserve... More

There were 9 of us that came for the tour. It was well worth the effort to see these amazing tapestries. I learned so much about the art of tapestries, the care and cleaning/repair of them, and the history of this art form I never thought I would want to own one until this tour-now I would love one. So... More
