Not as ornate or architecturally memorable as some European cathedrals, such as Chartres for instance, but non the less a very fine building, and well worth a visit. Built generally in the Gothic style, the outside of the cathedral offers a few more Flemish touches by way of turrets and the like, that have been added at later dates, but... More

I am not a religious person but do like to visit cathedrals.. this is one of the best. It's enormous, from the entrance steps to the massive doors and the cavernous roof. Loads of statues inside and the stained glass windows are a work of art. Loads of little nooks and crannies to look into. In the middle is a... More

This cathedral was beautiful. It was a lot larger inside than it looked on the outside, which was a pleasant surprise. Another bonus, it was free!

This is a lovely central church, rather well known from visits for festivities of the royal family (the more pompous celebrations being held in the austere and enormous Koekelberg Basilica). Neraby you will see some modedrn buildings of the Flemish government, supposedly 'mirroring' the church silhouette (I am not really impressed though). But why this double name? This is what... More

This is an EXCELLENT place to visit if you want to see a scandalous tribute to antisemitism - the stained glass windows depict a horrible tale of superstition and jew-hatred. The jewish community, to this day, is NOT amused by these windows. May 1370. six jews are burned at the stake in Brussels. They are accused of having stolen the... More

Brussels has always been famous for civil buildings. The religious buildings don't have the same appeal as the art nouveau houses. If this cathedral would be in Paris, London or Barcelona, most people would just ignore it. Nevertheless, 13 centuries of history and together with the St. Rombouts in Malines, the 2 most important churches in Belgium for the remaining... More

There is a warmth in this Cathederal that is sometimes not present in others. It combines a spiritual well being with the splendour of a historical building . We were warmed by our experience . Well worth a visit .
