We took the video guided tour of the abbey called Alison, The Secret of the fallen angel. The duration was approximately 90 minutes. The virtual guide on duty is a certain monk with Scottish roots (yes, really!) who lived in the 18th century. The guide takes you, in 17 steps, round-about the abbey, disclosing some info about the building and... More

Due to time constraints I only got to see the abbey from the outside. You can see it at it's best from a distance as you walk towards it and you can get some lovely photos from the nearby bridge. You must also see the church while you are here.

Beautiful church with a lovely garden with fruit trees. Wonderful place for a picknick on a sunny day. Adjacent to Wereld van Kina museum, 3 minute walk from Kinepolis cinema, 5 min walk from SMAK Museum and fine arts museum in Citadel Park.

Located in the center of a busy town, it's an unlikely place to find so much green. Make sure you take a walk in the medicinal garden and the vineyard.

One of the most famous places in Gent which you must visit when you are in the city of Gent. Lovely old atmosphere with a lovely walking area and some green places.

Till before the French Revolution, this was thé largest and wealthiest abbey in the Netherlands. It took over 10 years to desolve all of its property. Thanks to the impressive square in front of it, it shows its vast facade. Visit the abbey museum with a video guide 'Alisson' and the gardens at the waterfront. Especially during summer a nice... Behind the church there is a beautiful little garden with a vineyard. For budget travelers like myself it's a perfect alternative to take it easy, relax and have a picnic instead of going out to a restaurant. It's also a perfect place for a day out with the family or just spend some time in the sun.

We took the Alison tour -an audio visual which takes you into very interesting and usually inaccessible places. I would thoroughly recommend it -but leave plenty of time as it takes nearly 1.5 hours plus time in the church.

Behind the church there is a garden and a small vineyard, a beautiful green oasis in the middle of the city where in a warm, sunny day you can have a picnic. Relax and enjoy this hidden gem!

A Large abbey, in side too, worth a look around, lovely large alter piece spacious inside some paintings too and a nice Lecturn. They say that it is like St Peters Basilica in Rome that i personally do not think so as St Peters to me is much Larger
