One of the oldest medieval castles in the whole of europe...the tour is definitely worth it...there's medieval weapons all over, a torture chamber and a great inner garden..make sure you go early enough..else the place is pested with people.

Am I the only person disappointed by the Castle of the Counts? I love castles and palaces, but this one has little to offer beside lovely views and the ramparts. One large room is devoted to weaponry, another to torture devices... and that's pretty much...More

First of all, this castle is amazing and is worth to visit. Unfortunately they have not done much around it. Information is sparse and unnecessarily many rooms are completely empty.

The Gravensteen is without doubt one of the landmarks in Ghent. Home to the Earls of Flanders, courthouse and even a factory this fantastic building has (with a little help) survived centuries of Flemish history. Today it is a must to visit and wander around...More

In the center of old Ghent, tells the story of the Counts of Flandres, from the building and its restoration to the torture instruments, weapons and clothing of their days. Also provides great views of the city.

Looks incredible at night all lit up. We didn't explore inside so can't comment on that but we definitely felt it added to our trip.

This is not a castle for the weak--all the stairs are rebuilt as they were--twisting and narrow. Great signage, lovely open spaces and views from the top of the walls. Let your imagination run wild as you stroll the ramparts.
